Good food, close to its source.

Dining at the resort follows the landscape: lake fish, mountain dairy, orchard fruit and vegetables selected for the season rather than a fixed international menu.

The dining room

Our 54-seat restaurant, Tanne, serves dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and a smaller menu on Monday and Tuesday. The room is warm and uncluttered, with windows toward the lake and a separate lounge for aperitifs. Jacket and tie are not required; clean, comfortable clothing is appropriate. Children are welcome until 20:00, with an early supper menu available.

The kitchen works with a close group of producers. Trout comes from nearby waters when available, cheese from small dairies in the Bernese Oberland, and herbs from the resort garden. This does not mean every dish is rustic: the cooking is precise, with bright sauces, fermented accents and thoughtful vegetarian options.

Menus and pricing

The five-course seasonal menu is CHF 118 per person; a three-course choice is CHF 78. A vegetarian version is available with 24 hours' notice, and the chef can adapt for many allergies when informed at booking. A children's supper is CHF 28. Expect a dinner to take around two hours, or longer with the paired drinks.

The optional wine pairing is CHF 68 for three courses and CHF 98 for five. The sommelier also offers half pours and a concise selection of Swiss wines by the glass. For a more casual evening, the lounge serves soup, rösti, salads, open sandwiches and mountain cheese between 12:00 and 21:00. Main dishes there generally cost CHF 22–38.

Breakfast worth waking for

Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 10:30 and costs CHF 34 per adult when not included in a package. The buffet includes sourdough, cultured butter, local yoghurt, fruit, eggs cooked to order, grains and regional preserves. A hot dish changes daily. Guests leaving before 07:00 can request a breakfast bag with coffee, fruit and a pastry the evening before.

For the best view, choose the window tables after 08:30. For a quicker start before a hike, sit near the buffet and tell the team your departure time. Gluten-free bread and dairy-free alternatives are available; cross-contact cannot be eliminated in a shared kitchen, so severe allergies should be discussed before booking.

Restaurant or nearby village?

Staying in gives you a considered menu, no drive after wine and the ease of returning to your room. The limitation is a narrower service schedule and a higher price than a casual village café. Brienz has traditional restaurants, pizzerias and bakeries within a short drive or taxi ride, making it a good choice for variety or a low-key lunch. We can recommend current options, but opening days change outside summer.

Book around the seasons

Dinner reservations are recommended for Friday and Saturday, especially in July, August and December. The kitchen can usually accommodate a two-hour table, but larger groups should contact us early. A private dining table for up to 12 people is available for celebrations, with a set menu from CHF 145 per person. Ask about local wine, alcohol-free pairings and a small cake made by our pastry team.

The restaurant's great advantage is coherence: the same landscape appears in the view, the ingredients and the pace of the meal. It is not designed for guests seeking a large buffet or late-night bar. For that, combine breakfast and dinner at the resort with a village lunch during a day out.
